Frequently Asked Questions for the Team Championship
When/where does the event take place?
The 2007 National Championship will played October 10-13 at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. Innisbrook features four championship caliber courses, led by the famous Copperhead course, host to the PGA TOUR's PODS Championship.
In what format will the event be played?
The tournament is a 72-hole, individual stroke play competition with a cut (top 20% plus ties) after 54 holes. USGA® rules are in effect at all times during play.
How do I qualify for the National Championship?
There are three ways a player can qualify for the National Championship. 1) Win your local flight points race, 2) place in the top 2 in your flight at a regional 2-day major event or 3) win your local tour championship finale. If you are uncertain of your qualification status, contact your local tour director. If you are a qualifier, you may register online for the event or call 800 717 2248 to register by phone. Spots are limited, so qualifiers are not guaranteed a spot. The field will be compiled on a first come, first serve basis.
Where will the event registration be at Innisbrook?
All players MUST sign in/register for the National Championship sometime on Tuesday October 9th. Registration will take place Tuesday afternoon and evening at the resort - exact location(s) to be announced. All players must be pre-paid for the event by September 28th. Contact the national office at 800 717 2248 or at info@theaagt.com with any questions.
Can I have a caddy?
Yes. Caddies are the responsibilities of the players and must abide by all USGA rules and maintain pace of play. With the majority of the field playing threesomes, please do not assume your caddy is permitted to ride on your cart and be respectful of your playing competitors.
Can I have a guest and/or an extra cart?
Guests are welcome on the course but must remain out of play and CANNOT offer advice or suggestions for competitors. Unless for disability reasons, guest carts will NOT be allowed on the courses during tournament play.
Which courses will we play on which days?
We will not have the exact flight/course assignments until registration is completed. Players will be competing on Copperhead, Island, Highlands North and Highlands South courses. All rounds should be completed by early-afternoon.
Where can I find tee times and pairings?
Once registration is closed (September 28th), pairings for the first three rounds will be posted online at least a week before the tournament starts. The tournament committee will know which flights are going off in which time frame but exact final round pairings will be available sometime following the completion of Friday's round in the scoring area and made available online as soon as possible.
Can I request a friend to be paired up with?
No. With over 400 players, it would be impossible to honor such requests. All players will be paired up at random, within your flight with the final round being sorted by scores, highest to lowest.
What is the cost of skins and when will they be posted and paid out?
The skins games will only apply for the first three rounds of the tournament. The cost is $20/day ($60 total) for In-flight skins and $10/day ($30 total) for Giant skins for a total of $90. Players may choose to participate in either game or both. In-Flight skins are skins (lowest score NOT birdie or better) against players within your own flight. Giant skins are against everyone playing the course you are on that day (birdie or better). For those interested in participating in the skins games, you must pay by CASH ONLY before the start of play on Wednesday - NO EXCEPTIONS. Skins will be paid out the next day as a player registers at his/her course. If you win a skin on Friday and are not at the course on Saturday, your skin money will be mailed to you within a weeks’ time after conclusion of the event.
What happens if no one wins a skin for a day?
If not one skin is won for a single day, (eg, if there is no Super Skin paid out for Thursday or no skins are won by an individual flight) the monies for that day will be carried over to the following days skins and added to the pot. If no skins are won on the last day of skins play, Friday then all players involved in that skins pot will be placed into a drawing and three (3) players names will be drawn and the pot will be divided by 3 and each players whose name is drawn, will be awarded 1/3 of the total pot.
What are the payouts for flight winners?
Payout for the top finishers will be based on the number of players in each flight and will consist of trophies, online gift certificates, products and entries into future events, not to exceed the maximum allowable under USGA Amateur Guidelines. Prize and flight breakdown will not be available until the completion of registration (September 28th).
How are Senior Flights determined?
Senior flights are open to all players 50 years of age or older as of the start of play on Wednesday October 10th . (A flight MUST HAVE a minimum of 8 players to be considered a flight. If there are less than 8 players in any senior flight, the members will compete in the mid-am flights and will participate in the mid-am prize pool). The low senior in that flight will win a separate trophy for being low senior, but will be awarded prizes based on his/her place of finish in the mid-am flight. If you are NOT designated as a senior player on the Website, please contact your local director or the national office and let them know you wish to compete as a senior.
Will there be Super Senior Flights?
No.

If after 4 rounds of play, if any players are tied for 1st place in their respective flight, a sudden death playoff will take place, continuing for as many holes are necessary until a winner is declared. Whichever player records the lowest score first, will win 1st place prizes/awards. The rules committee will dictate which hole(s) the playoff will be conducted on and oversee the playoff. Ties for subsequent places will be broken based on the USGA® method for matching scorecards (back 9, last 6, last 3, etc.).

How many players will be playing in each pairing?
We will be utilizing threesomes whenever possible to encourage a standard pace of play. In some instances there may be foursomes or even twosomes if a player does not show up. We will be using split tees in the morning and afternoon of each round if possible.
When and where is the awards presentation?

Participants may call 727 942 2000 to reserve at tee time on any of the four championship courses from now up until the start of the event for a preferred rate of $90. Be sure to mention you are with the GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour when reserving your tee time.
What happens if the event has rain and/or weather delays?
The AAGT Staff will do everything possible to get all holes completed for the event, however if the course is unplayable or dangerous lightning is eminent, the event may be reduced to a shortened number of holes. We will do everything possible to get all 72 holes completed but all players should check with the staff in case changes to tee times and events are required.
Does the Tour look at players to ensure proper flighting?
The Tour National Office will look at every competitor's Tour index using the tour established handicap index based upon their scores that they shot on Tour this season. If a player's index falls below the guidelines for his/her flight, we will contact the local director and the player to inform them of the flight change. Players will not be reflighted if their Index indicates a move to a higher indexed flight (ex: Nicklaus to Hogan) where they did not play during the season. We will cut-off the index calculations for flighting as of September 1st. We will have all players' index computations available for peer review at the national championship scoring area.
What are the transportation/parking details for the event?
Each player is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from the courses during the event. Super Shuttle will provide transportation to/from Tampa International and St. Petersburg/Clearwater airports. Make your reservations online at SuperShuttle.net.
